It’s that time of the year again when our hearts think of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in this month dedicated to His Priestly Heart and the time when we think of His priestly son, St. Anthony of Padua.

Every year at this Novena time, we have a box in which the people making the Novena to St. Anthony place all their petitions.

Each year at the end of the Novena, I read all the petitions in confidence and then offer them up to St. Anthony as the petitions are burned.

Each year, I am so very moved as I read the petitions asking our Dear Saint for so much help in our lives.  Petitions asking help for a son who has lost his job.  Petitions asking St. Anthony to guide a husband back to his marriage.  And the faithful petitions to St. Anthony about everything and anything all prayerfully written with many a tear shed over the paper.

Why do so many of us keep coming back to St. Anthony?  Why do we keep coming to him with our hands upraised asking and begging his intercession?  The answer is very simple!  Because St. Anthony has been a faithful friend to so many people for so long in every land and place.  Since June 13, 1231, this beloved saint has been answering the prayers of his beloved clients.  For almost 800 years, prayers have ascended to St. Anthony who has so faithfully brought them to the Infant Jesus in his arms.

If perhaps you’ve never had a devotion to St. Anthony, why not begin at this Novena which begins June 5th?  Do you have a problem?  You don’t know where to turn?  You’ve prayed and prayed with no answer?

Now is the time to come to St. Anthony.  He will hear you and answer your prayer as he has been doing for the last 777 years.

That’s why St. Anthony is the Saint of the Whole World!  There is scarcely a Church you would enter that does not have a statue of this saint.

Whether it is in Ireland, Italy, Poland, France, Spain or China, his image is there because his popularity has never waned in those 777 years.

Bring a friend to the Novena – someone who has been away from the Church.  It will be a time of prayer and also renewal of our Catholic Faith.  It will be a time of intercession – a time of instruction – a time to be alone with one of the most beloved followers of Jesus who has been in the Catholic Hall of Fame for 777 years!
